It’s Saturday, time for #Rainbowsnippets, and I’m running behind for numerous reasons. Getting my life together before my first knee replacement surgery (probably within the next month). Because our house is/was disorganized. Because we’re trying to reduce food waste around here. Because I found empty soap containers in the bathroom cabinet that should’ve gone to recycling two years ago.
Reasons.
But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t get my writerly duties accomplished. Better late than never, right?
This #Rainbowsnippets* is uniquely mine, but there are lots of other great snippets to read, so after you finish here click the FB link at the bottom of the post to discover other great LGBTQIA authors and their works.
Cent, from Cleaning House and Mama etc. is the protagonist in my current #WIP, Keeping House, and she’s butting head with another character, Dane Gow, she-king of the Hunter Fey, so you’d best pay attention to the king or you might get hurt. Things had taken a dangerous turn last week when Cent brought up weapons so let’s see how it’s going now.
This first sentence comes from last week’s snippet, and it’s Cent talking.
…“This goes only if you and your men disarm too.”
“Just checkin’.” Dane raised the edge of her kilt to show the Glock nine-millimeter strapped to her thigh. “I’m already grinnin’ like a possum about the next three months.”
Cent huffed and turned her attention to the Wee Fey who’d swept in from the circle’s opposite side. They stopped midflight when they saw the Hunters and reversed course, settling onto a stump along the edge where they huddled together.
“Look, boys. It’s tomorrow night’s dinner.” Dane waved her left hand over her right and a pint Mason jar of moonshine appeared in her palm. “Lemme drink this, and we’ll bag ’em up for the trip home.”
Drinking and guns. Great combo, Dane. So is she that dumb or… No, nothing King Dane Gow does is dumb. Calculated, certainly. That’s the Hunter Fey way so Cent’s got an awful lot to learn, doesn’t she?

Damn, Dane! Poor little wee fey. ❤

Fey are tricky… both the small and large versions. 🙂

Somehow, I’m picturing the Wee Fey eating popcorn and watching those two, never realizing how dangerous that is…

Oh, you’re right about this… to a point. The Wee Fey are still fey, and just as tricky as their larger brethren.

She’s obviously making a very calculated impression! Wish I had that magic skill though, lol.

Yes, very calculated, but remember that Dane’s fey. Tricky and calculating are part of the fey skill set.

Grinning like a possum really paints a picture.
Good luck with the surgery. If those are your knees, yeah there is definitely a lot of arthritis on those medial condyles.

Dane has a penchant for one-liners. Lol.
No, those aren’t my knees. Mine are actually worse. Take that x-ray and add stage 4 Chondromalacia of the Patella on the left and stage two on the right, bone spurs on both knees, and the lateral condyles are almost as bad as the medial on both. The left knee goes first because of the Chondromalacia and the fact I keep spraining the MCL. The surgeon says it’s a combo of crap genetics, RA, and years of working on concrete. I don’t care about the cause at this point; I simply want the swelling to stop. It’s ridiculous even with daily steroids for my RA, Meloxicam, and double-strength steriod injections in both knees (my body tends to hyper-react to anything of this sort). I’m actually in physical therapy right now to build my muscles before the surgery.

Nice snippet! I hope your knee surgery goes well 🙂 My hubby just had both done (rare nowadays) and is hobbling along just fine.

Yeah, they won’t be doing both of mine at once because of my combined health issues. One at a time, please. Glad the hubby’s doing well.

That’s usually how they do them now, bilaterals are somewhat rare. Ty! He has pain still, but the PT is helping.
