It’s Saturday, and that means it’s time for Rainbowsnippets*! This one is uniquely mine, but there are lots of other great snippets to read, so after you finish here click the FB link at the bottom of the post to discover other great LGBTQIA authors and their works.
Cent, from Cleaning House and Mama etc. is the protagonist in my current #WIP, Keeping House, but I’m currently introducing you to a character who was a minor, but important, player in both stories. Dane’s a major player now, she-king of the Hunter Fey, so you’d best pay attention to the king.
At this point, Cent’s unimpressed, to say the least. Dane’s rudely pointed at her and is now trash-talking to get under Cent’s skin, which is exactly what Dane wants.
The sentence in orange comes from last week’s snippet.
That’s rude. But Cent didn’t expect anything less from someone like Dane.
“Flip out those wings, and let’s get to flyin’.” Dane tilted her head and curled her mouth into a smile broad enough to reveal her pointed Hunter teeth. “Them coveralls ain’t been modified for your wings, so you’re gonna hafta drop your top to unfurl.” She snickered. “You want me to wait, I’ll do it just to see that.”
Dammit! Cent squared her shoulders to shake off the spell Dane had cast over her. “You can’t compel me into lowering my coveralls before it’s time.” She countered with opposite energy, rebalancing the air around her.
“Indeed.” Stowne stepped between them. “Centenary will be leaving per our agreement, but your continued manipulations might well render it null and void.”
Oh, please do something so stupid. But Cent knew Dane wouldn’t.
You’re right, Cent, Dane’s too smart to do something to nullify the deal Stowne struck to save you, meaning she wants something from you, but what? If she wanted to harm you she simply would’ve let you die, right?

Ooo, intense scene! (heart)

Yeah, well, (said delicately as not to produce a spoiler) sometimes rudeness hides something deeper, you know?

Love the last line.
I’m really curious about this deal that was made.

It was made at the end of Cleaning House (book one in the series) to save Cent’s life. Now, it’s pay up time.

Sometimes, just sometimes, the most wounded of us come across as the meanest.

I can just hear her…I dare you, I dare you to do something stupid!

Yes, she wishes it’d happen, but Cent knows better.

Uh oh, Cent. Watch out for those ulterior motives!

Ulterior motives are what make Hunters, um, Hunters. I think it’s a general fey problem, really. Careful what you ask for and who you ask to fulfill that wish.

They’re at definite odds but there’s a very good reason for it that will slowly reveal itself over the course of the novel. (gives a sly smile)
