Welcome to this week’s installment of Rainbowsnippets*! This one is uniquely mine, but there are lots of other great snippets to read, so after you finish here click the FB link at the bottom of the post to discover other great LGBTQIA authors and their works.
Cent, from Cleaning House and Mama etc. is the protagonist in Keeping House, but I’m currently introducing you to a character who was a minor, but important, player in both stories. Dane’s a major player now, she-king of the Hunter Fey, so you’d best pay attention to the king.
This picks up from last week’s snippet, so the first sentence, in orange, comes from last week. Cent, as you’ve already probably know, isn’t happy at all that she’s leaving with Dane, but her eternal spouse, Stowne, an earth elemental, is even more so.
That’s totally unsettling. Cent couldn’t bring herself to smile back. “We’ll go after the ceremony.” She gave Dane a wide berth as she walked to her stack-stone seat inside the circle. “Cop a squat and wait.”
Stowne followed Cent but stopped to glare at Dane’s men. “We are cooperating so why are they here?”
“My boys?” Dane glanced over her shoulder at them. “They’re lookin’ out for my interests. Listen, I ain’t got time for none of your bullshit tonight.” She beckoned Cent with her right index finger, the sorry dog, the one Judas had used to point out Jesus.
That’s rude. But Cent didn’t expect anything less from someone like Dane.
That’s right, Cent. You shouldn’t expect anything less, but you don’t know what’s really going on, so watch your back in all directions.

Still loving Dane! 😀

Dane’s a lovable train wreck of good intentions gone horribly wrong… with a temper and a foul mouth as well.

At least Cent knows enough to keep an eye on Dane. ♡

Cent remembers almost nothing about Dane aside from what little she’s seen and what Stowne’s told her and that, in itself, is dangerous.

The dog finger’s an old belief here in Appalachia, other places too, I’d imagine.

Heh, sounds like both Cent and Dane are going to get more than they bargained for in cooperating for now! 🙂
