Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday*. This week, I’m sharing more from the sequel to Cleaning House, Keeping House, which is truly still a WIP. I’m almost finished with the rough draft though. Actually, I’m 99K into the work, and I’ve sketched out the ending, but I’m taking a break to work on a holiday novella set in the same world as Cleaning House, meaning it’s contemporary. It’s titled Mama, Me and the Holiday Tree and will be released in ebook format on November 1, 2018.
The focus in the prologue for Keeping House is the character Dane. She has a dark history, and I’m shoving you headfirst into it. The prologue is set in the year 1603.
Here’s how I picture Dane back then: young, desperate, and angry.
Read part one of the prologue HERE.
Read part two of the prologue HERE.
Read part three of the prologue HERE.
Here’s my WIPpet math for 8/29/2018: 2+1=3 paragraphs from Keeping House, novel two in the Appalachian Elementals series.
This WIPpet picks up right where the last left off, but I’ve included the final line from last week (in yellow) to help you along.
Dane’s heart is tightly tangled with her beautiful catch, so she jumps into the deal before she fully thinks, shuddering when Duff pulls her close, hissing his want before he kisses her.
“Ah made ye Hunter because ye pleased me Morag’s heart, sweet Dane, but now that ye are grown an’ she has become resistant tae me charms, ye will please me in ‘er place.”
The Tsalagi woman remains silent, unfamiliar with the tongue they speak, but her eyes grow large with the knowledge of what her keeper must endure to save her from the spit.
“Secure ‘er then come tae me chambers.”
I’ll be posting the end of the prologue next week.

*WIPpet Wednesday is a blog hop hosted by Emily Wrayburn wherein writers share excerpts of their latest WIP. All genres and levels of accomplishment are welcome. The only stipulation is that the excerpt must coincide with the date in some manner. For example, on 10/8/14 you might share 10 lines from page 8, 8 paragraphs from chapter 14, or perhaps 18 sentences by doing WIPpet math and adding the day to the month. We’re flexible like that.

yeah, that may have been a not great deal to make.

It definitely isn’t. Poor Dane. My heart ached for her when she told me this bit of her background. Of course, she tried to blow it off as nothing big, but that’s simply Dane.

Oh, my heart aches both for Dane and for the Tsalagi woman here. What a terrible situation for them both.

Yeah, it is. As I told Fallon, Dane tried to blow it off after she told me, but it broke my heart to write it. That said, it helped me understand Dane’s behavior in 2018.

This deal is getting worse all the time. Thanks for stretching the torture out.

Yeah, it is. There had to be reasons Dane is how she is, and there was no pretty way for that to happen.
