It’s hot here in Tennessee. Dang hot. A want to stay inside in the comfy AC sort of hot.
One might even say singed, but that’s not why I’ve used the word in this week’s WIPpet subject line.
Twenty-seven days to go until Cleaning House is released, that’s it. This is by far the most involved promotion set up I’ve ever been involved in, but it’s slowly paying off. I’ve already had a decent number of pre-orders, and I’ve managed to find some reviewers. Most of those reviews won’t appear right at the release, but they’ll be up during the release month. Here’s hoping the rest develops organically. (insert nervous grimace here)
This is an incredible amount of work to do on your own, and at times I feel I’m a fish totally out of water, but that’s okay. It’s getting done exactly as I want, and I like having this much control for once. Bad part is… If something gets screwed up, I’m the only one to blame.
It’s WIPpet Wednesday*, and I’m sharing from Cleaning House, which will soon lose its WIP (work-in-progress) status.
Here’s this week’s WIPpet math – 7/4/2018 – 1, 0, 7-4=3. That’s 103 words from Cleaning House – A Contemporary Appalachian Fantasy.
The Setup: Rayne has commanded Pyre to appear, and they’ve done so. It’s going to be a heated conversation. This picks up directly from last week, and the first paragraph (in yellow) is from then.
…Rayne spun around and pointed out the window. “Pyre! I feel your presence! I’m the elder of us, and the more powerful, so come to me now, or I’ll command you to do so!”
“You would.” Pyre’s smoky form seeped through the window, collecting to stand between Cent and Rayne. “Hello again, my dear.” Pyre flashed Cent another white-hot smile. “I see you’ve been doing some cleaning. Would you like my assistance?”
“You’re getting in my way?” Cent waved her arm, cutting Pyre’s smoke in half. “Why?”
“A part of you wishes to be mine again.” Pyre moved closer, their breath hot on her neck. “You remember us. What we accomplished together. How bravely we burned.”
“It was quick, and you left me singed!” Cent raised her arm to swing at Pyre again. “Get outta my way!”
Cent’s memories are returning, and not all of them are good.

*WIPpet Wednesday is a blog hop hosted by Emily Wrayburn wherein writers share excerpts of their latest WIP. All genres and levels of accomplishment are welcome. The only stipulation is that the excerpt must coincide with the date in some manner. For example, on 10/8/14 you might share 10 lines from page 8, 8 paragraphs from chapter 14, or perhaps 18 sentences by doing WIPpet math and adding the day to the month. We’re flexible like that.
