#RainbowSnippets #novellines Forty-Eight 5/26: Rainbow Sheep

Okay, I think I’ve managed to do almost everything backward concerning my upcoming novel’s cover, ebook formatting, and print copy formatting, but I was learning… a lot. Things should go better next time, at least in theory.

Despite this, things are actually pretty good, so good, in fact, that I’ve put a sample of Cleaning House on Instafreebee. You can find it here… enjoy!

Welcome to this week’s installment of Rainbowsnippets*! This one is uniquely mine, but there are lots of other great snippets to read, so after you finish here click the FB link at the bottom of the post to discover other great LGBTQIA authors and their works.

I’m sharing from Cleaning House again. The novel an Appalachian-set Contemporary/ Paranormal Fantasy where the past and the present are blended with a healthy dose of granny magic. The mountains are alive, and a little moonshine can cure most everything.

The Setup: Cent swears she isn’t going home, but she’s still going to call Aunt Tess to touch base. Her cousin, Aubrey, reaches the phone first, a fact Cent doesn’t mind at all.

    Hello?”

“Aubrey? Is that you?” Cent relaxed her grip on the phone when he confirmed her inquiry. Cousin Aubrey was not merely okay, he was the only other family in the family. The self-professed rainbow sheep, a title he’d claimed only to Cent after she’d moved away. “Is Aunt Tess around?’

“In her herb garden.” Aubrey placed emphasis on the normally silent H in herb. “Hold on. I’ll get her for you.”

This’ll take a few. Cent heard the bang of the back door and Aubrey’s voice seconds later, yelling for Aunt Tess. “She’s coming. So how you doin’?”

“Fine, I guess. Working. That’s all.”

“You and me both.” Aubrey chuckled low. “Your mama’s mad ‘cause Tess contacted you, so watch yourself.”

Ah, family. You either love ‘em or barely tolerate ‘em. Thankfully for Cent, Aubrey’s perfectly lovable family within the family.

Want to know why he saw reason to warn Cent? Come back next week.
