Is it Wednesday? Wow, this week is flying by! Maybe it’s because I’m neck-deep in learning InDesign. I’m not complaining. Rather, I’m investing myself in the learning process. So much so that I’m not listening to music while I work, meaning I’m serious about my doings.
Anyway, welcome to #WIPpet Wednesday! A little insight? Yes, indeed. We all need some from time to time.
Here’s my WIPpet math for 5/23/2018: 2, 8+1, 2 = 292 words from Cleaning House, which is scheduled for release on August 1st.
The Setup: Cent and Aunt Tess are still walking home from the full moon esbat and are deep into their conversation. Cent speaks first in this WIPpet.
“What does Stowne look like?”
“You don’t remember?” Tess turned to see her.
“I recall sensations, smells, warmth.” Cent shivered. “But no, I don’t remember what Stowne looks like.”
“Stowne is, well, Stowne. They’re earth and rock and sand, but you know all that. And Stowne ain’t just made of dirt. They’re an earth elemental, this mountain’s spirit, and that makes them older and different than the others.”
“They’re a gnome?” Cent knew that wasn’t right the second it sprang from her mouth.
“I guess they were at one point, but not anymore. A gnome is an earth elemental’s true form. I’m told it’s hard for them to find a Human lover, but Stowne somehow managed where you’re concerned. But above all, Stowne loves you, and they’ll change their form at any given moment if it pleases you.”
“They change their shape to suit me?”
“Stowne’s good at readin’ you and adaptin’. That’s what Rayne says. I ain’t been there for all those lifetimes, but from what I’ve seen in mine, I’m inclined to agree.” Tess grumbled when the porch boards groaned under her weight. “Yep. We got work to do.”
“A lot of things around here need replacing.” I guess I shouldn’t be embarrassed by anything now. But part of her… “My first kiss?”
“Ina Sue Jones behind Dryler’s.”
“Some boy up in Chicago, but you were smart about it. You always are, so I don’t worry much.”
“Huh. Okay.” They now stood at the trailer door. “And Stowne?”
“Not yet this lifetime, but I have my hopes. A more than half-magic child or two here would be wonderful, but that’s your choice to make.” Tess winked at her. “Get yourself to bed. We’ve lots to do tomorrow.”

** WIPpet Wednesday is a blog hop hosted by Emily Wrayburn wherein writers share excerpts of their latest WIP. All genres and levels of accomplishment are welcome. The only stipulation is that the excerpt must coincide with the date in some manner. For example, on 10/8/14 you might share 10 lines from page 8, 8 paragraphs from chapter 14, or perhaps 18 sentences by doing WIPpet math and adding the day to the month. We’re flexible like that.
