#RainbowSnippets #ScienceFiction Twenty-Nine 1/13: Another Cup of Tea

What the hell happened to the weather? Friday afternoon, it was 65F, downright balmy for January in Tennessee, and today it’s…. brrr! The snow and cold have returned. Rapid-change weather like this can make people ill.

This week’s #Rainbowsnippet comes again from Surrogate: Hunted, which is scheduled for release by Supposed Crimes in March 2018. The ebook version will be released on February 18, 2018, so why not head over to Amazon and pre-order your copy while you can?

On that note, I am looking for reviewers and hoping to share the new-release-love at a few similarly minded blogs on the official release date. If you’d like to take part, contact me through either FB or this site’s Contact page, and we’ll see if we can get something worked out. I’d loved to highlight your work too, especially if it’s SFF and/ or LGBT in content (no erotica content though unless it is extremely mild by my standards… I simply choose not to go there in my reading, writing, or on my website).

The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook is “for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction– a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation. (no spoilers, please!)”

The Setup: Etain and Brigit have been living with the Znyrs for a month when Etain runs into a problem–her breeding cycle. It’s time for her She-Beast to return, and Etain is of the opinion that there’s no one she can turn to for help.

Note: The Myt Basa Tra is the Cycalk name for their species’ breeding grounds. Ytr is currently there, the start of his breeding cycle prompted by Etain’s rising one.

Etain speaks first in this snippet.

     “Is the tea strong?”

“Very.” Trn patted the floor beside her. “Is hot too.”

     “I can’t sit long.”

“I know.” Trn looked at the gate as well. “Your beast wants to run. What you do?”

“Walk off her energy and talk her down.” But She-Beast wanted to swing on the compound’s front gate like Ytr had. “I wish there was a place I could go like the Ytr went— a place away.”

“No wagon or Myt Basa Tra for you. It easier in Znyrs’ towns.”

“Why can’t I go to one?”

“Too far.” Trn shook her head. “Tea help, but—” She touched Etain’s arm. “Can I help you?”

Will Etain accept Trn’s offer? It’d be safer than trying to contain She-Beast alone, however, Trn is Cycalk and much older than Etain.

  1. I’ve always loved how She-Beast is written.

You know I’ll review it, though I can’t post to Amazon because of their policies. Let me know if you want to do a guest post or something on my blog, though.

  2. After all that’s happened to them, I’m amazed she still has the capacity to make choices rather than just curl up in a corner and hide.
I’d be happy to host you on my blog if you need another slot… 😉

    • That would be awesome! Thanks! I’ll be getting in touch with people around the first of February to set things up for on-or-around the March 1 release. Just let me know what you need/ want to cover and I’ll try to make it happen. 🙂
