Saturday already? Wow! This week has flown by! I’m up to my eyebrows in NaNoWriMo at present, but here’s another Snippet from Surrogate: Hunted, which is tentatively scheduled for release on March 1, 2018, with Supposed Crimes publishers.
And…it’s official. I’m part of a new small company called Mountain Gap Publishing. (website up soon) Our first book, set for a January release, will be a children’s book about a local author and illustrator. We’re starting slow but steady, with 3-4 titles in 2018. We’re an Appalachian-based publisher with a focus on authors currently living in or born and raised in the Appalachians, which is a very large area. While we will be diverse in content, including LGBTQIA stories, we will have limits, such as no erotic content.
More on that later.
The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook is “for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).”
The Setup: Mateo has found Etain, at least for a while, and tries to comfort her amid the chaos of their captivity.
“It’s not just you.” Mateo showed her two almost-healed bite marks on his forearm.
“Mateo, I– crying makes me look weak.”
“To who?” He glanced through the fencing to see their captors. “To them? Why do you care what they think?” He pointed toward one of the other groups inside their pen. “See the man sitting with the boy? See the woman with them?” Both adults had bite marks and stripes all over their bodies, the man’s fresher than the woman’s. They sat close together, their son of maybe six years age between them. “You’re not alone, and crying doesn’t make you weak. It does the opposite. It means you’re strong enough to heal.”
