It’s Saturday! Time for another #Rainbowsnippets!
The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook is “for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation. (no spoilers please!)”
Here’s a another #RainbowSnippet* from Surrogate: Hunted.
The Setup: Etain is spending time with her youngest daughter, two-year-old Merchal, before she goes to Takran’s moon Safe Harbor to retrieve her runaway goddaughter, Brigit.
Yes, this is technically more than six sentences, but so many of them are short, I believe it’s justified.
“Mama!” Merchal laughed and wiggled, the two things she was best at. “Higher!”
Cute scene. But asking a two year old to be good is kind of like asking for the moon to come to her, isn’t it?

Yeah, it is. But parents still do so. I worked in a daycare when my own children were small and heard it every single day.

Good to see her having a moment of fun.

I thought Etain deserved a little happiness considering what I’m about to put her through. *rubs her hands together* We authors can be downright cruel to our characters IMO. But that certainly doesn’t stop me from doing so.

Sometimes a bit of sweetness helps temper things to come. *ominous music begins to play*

Oh, how sweet! Two-year-olds are the best (and sometimes, er, very energetic). 🙂 Loved this – thank you.
