Sunday Roundup: The Versatile Blog Award

Wow! Just, wow! Thank you, Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award! What’s the Versatile Blogger Award, you ask. Here’s what the Versatile Blog Website says about itself:

“When you consider nominating a fellow blogger for the Versatile Blogger Award, consider the quality of the writing, the uniqueness of the subjects covered, the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page.  Or, of course, the quality of the photographs and the level of love displayed in the taking of them.

“Honor those bloggers who bring something special to your life whether every day or only now and then.

“And, have fun!”

Love displayed in the words. Awww. That pulls my heartstrings. Thank you, Sophie. I am very passionate about my writing and am overjoyed when someone recognizes it across the void of cyberland.

Now, I must do four things before I can display the Versatile Blogger Award on my website, so here goes.

#1 Thank the person who nominated you.

THANK YOU, Sophie, from the bottom of my heart. If you haven’t met Sophie, make certain you head over to Sophie’s Corner to learn all about her. She’s a wonderful soul, a pharmacist, and a great writer to boot!

#2 Share 7 facts about yourself.

Alrighty then. Here goes nothing.

  1. I’m very happily married to the love of my life. We’ve been together almost fifteen years and married for almost one, the difference only because our marriage wasn’t legally recognized here in the U.S. until 2015.

  2. We have five cats. Yes, we’re gluttons for kitty punishment. However, like both myself and my spouse, are disabled in their own ways.

    • Sammy – fourteen-year-old and very needy big orange boy who we almost lost to a bladder blockage at age ten

    • Frankie Blue Eyes – twelve-year-old, almost blind Siamese

    • Mistofelees (Mist) – a rolly-polly ten-year-old solid black pound baby who no one wanted, but we love dearly

    • Hans Kitler – two-year-old black and white moustache man who’s FIV positive

    • Danni – short for Lt. Dan (yes, Forrest Gump), fourteen-week-old black smoke little girl who we found at three days old. She has no back feet, but it doesn’t get in her way, because she’s into everything and has an Olympic-worthy front-leg spring jump.

  3. I have an MA in English, am licensed to teach in three states, and have enough other graduate hours to be ABD, plus five published novels, so I’m pretty much there. I just don’t have the piece of paper. I no longer work, however, for numerous health reasons.

  4. I served in the USN and my spouse is retired USMC. We can both curse up a storm when we let ourselves, and occasionally speak in military jargon just to see the blank expressions on people’s faces.

No snarky or funny meme here. We were proud to serve.

5. I believe in ghosts, because I have experienced them. Really.

    • We’ve lived in one home alongside a small, enchanted stand of trees where fairies danced and knocked on the walls and rang the doorbell for recognition until I went outside and talked to them. Seriously, it stopped after that. But they’re also the reason I will no longer pick flowers. Another story for another day.

    • We lived in a house where the landlord said his great uncle’s rocker had to stay only to find out it was because the deceased gentleman was attached to the rocker. He wasn’t a bad guy, but he liked to turn on the overhead lights at 3AM just to say hi, which was most annoying. We could ask him to turn off the light and most times, he would.

    • We moved from one house, because there was something rather ugly living in one of the bedroom closets. It would knock and rattle the walls, and slam the door when you were in or near the closet. We placed wards around the door to keep it at bay until we could move then blocked it from following us.

      6. The above said, this… because there is a bit of fact behind it, but I’ll leave it up to you to decipher the clue.

      7. I am laughing hysterically right now because my wife said the following: “Danni, it’s very sweet that you’re bathing Hans’ head, but you’re also sitting on it.” So goes life with a kitten.

  1. Hello there Jeanne and congratulations! It was so much fun learning more about you in this post!
So nice to find a fellow cat lover! I only have one cat, Haruki. I want another one so bad, but my apartment manager is being… not very nice about my request.
Wow 5 published novels!!! That’s an accomplishment beyond all words! What genre do you mostly enjoy writing?
I look forward to reading more from you in the future… Happy Blogging! 🙂

    • Nice to meet you, Delphine! I see you’ve been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award too – congrats! I mainly write Sci-Fi – one series complete and the other written w/ the first novel in the series published, the second about to go to the publisher for publication next year, and the third in rewrites. I’m also working on a new novel (perhaps a series) that will probably land in the Contemporary Fantasy genre. I also write a bit of poetry, do a few reviews, and, as you read, cat wrangle.

Again, it was great to meet you, and I hope to see you around the web!
