Dinner and the Ever-After

    Tom came for dinner and stayed—a bony chandelier. He’d told Naomi she was dark.



     “You didn’t try hard enough!” Ada’s daughter fled, leaving her mother hollow from the attempts.



     Mary reluctantly descended the spiraling staircase of her student loan debt. Deferment still meant interest.

     “This’ll be the one.” She clicked submit, knowing rejection would again come addressed, “Dear Author.”
